The famous King Ranch, located in South Texas is larger than the entire state of Rhode Island. It is spread over four counties and encompasses 825,000 acres.

Arguably the most famous "Texan", was actually not from Texas. Sam Houston was born in Virginia and served as Governor of Tennessee before coming to Texas.

The name Texas, comes from the Hasinai Indian word "tejas", meaning friends or allies
 The worst natural disaster to ever strike the United Staes was the hurricane that hit Galveston, Texas in 1900 killing some 8000 people
